FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT FOUR FREEDOMS PARK ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF NEW WEB SITE ON HISTORIC DAY

Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park Web site accessible at www.fdrfourfreedomspark.org

NEW YORK – January 6, 2010 - The Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, LLC has announced the launch of their new and updated website: www.fdrfourfreedomspark.org on this historic day that Franklin D. Roosevelt made his famous Four Freedoms speech.

On January 6, 1941 Roosevelt addressed Congress with his vision of a more perfect world where every person has the right to four essential freedoms: Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, designed for the southern tip of Roosevelt Island, New York City by the architect Louis I. Kahn, will forever memorialize these Four Freedoms and this great U.S. President. The website will serve as the primary source of information on the Park.

“We are thrilled to launch the updated website on this historic day. Visitors to the site will have access to the latest news on construction progress of this great Park for New York City,” said Gina Pollara, Executive Director, Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park.

The site features a new design that allows easy navigation through Park news, photos & videos, historical documents, and donor information. It will serve as a primary source of reference throughout all phases of Park construction. It also features “This Day in History during FDR’s Presidency,” as well as information on the architect Louis I. Kahn. There is access to speeches by Franklin D. Roosevelt, historical records of some of his great accomplishments in United States history, and a chronology of the Park beginning with its conception.

Support and endorsements for the Park have been forthcoming over decades from many public and civic organizations, as well as elected officials including Governor David Paterson and Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The design of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park was commissioned by New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller in 1973, and supported over the past three decades by New York Governors Wilson, Carey, Cuomo, Spitzer and Paterson. Two years ago, the City and State recommitted to the public and private partnership to finally realize this extraordinary civic space.
